Sheri Gee’s work often derives from people watching – using the everyday moments, in her non-studio time as a working mother, to influence her paintings. Stemming from many years of life drawing, Gee has an enduring passion for depicting the figure. Aside from painting her children, Gee became captivated by the solitary commuter in the rain, drawn to the passing colours of coats and umbrellas, lights and reflections. Her latest work stems from these paintings.

Painting in oil on either gesso board or canvas, the aim of Gee’s most recent series of works is to explore a subtle introspective narrative, as the artist takes the artwork beyond the original point of reference. The paintings reflect a snatched, quiet moment between the hectic responsibilities of work or motherhood. The women are enveloped, separated, by their umbrella enclosures, able to reflect and ruminate quietly.
